Terre d’Oltrepò Crisis: A Call for Action in Parliament

The Terre d’Oltrepò crisis has once again landed in Parliament, with a joint resolution signed by the 5 Star Movement and the Democratic Party. The resolution, deposited with the Agriculture and Productive Activities Commissions, urges the Government to define stringent constraints for the work of the commissioners. The primary objective is to guarantee business continuity and protect assets considered strategic.

The Terre d’Oltrepò issue has sparked concern among its members, with a deficit exceeding 30 million euros and hundreds of member farms still waiting for payments for the grapes delivered in 2024, estimated at around 7 million euros. The share capital, around 12 million euros, is also at risk of being lost. The coordinator of Pavia and the province of the 5 Star Movement, Simone Verni, has raised the issue, stating that “no responsibility has been clarified” with respect to the situation that led the company to compulsory administrative liquidation.

Parliamentary Resolution: Protecting Terre d’Oltrepò’s Assets

The parliamentary resolution proposes several measures to protect Terre d’Oltrepò’s assets, including preventing the liquidation or alienation of key assets for purposes unrelated to the agricultural or cooperative vocation. It also calls for “full accounting and management transparency,” ensuring members have complete access to economic-financial data. Furthermore, the resolution invites the exclusion of subjects with “predominantly speculative purposes” into the structure or control of the winery. The commissioner will be required to periodically report to the competent parliamentary commissions on the progress of management.

Potential Buyers and Industrial Solutions

Meanwhile, the Lombardy Region has announced the interest of the Venetian Collis group in acquiring Terre d’Oltrepò. Additionally, Losito and Guarini, among the most important wine producers in the Oltrepò Pavia area, have expressed their availability to evaluate an acquisition operation. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen who will ultimately buy Terre d’Oltrepò and what the future holds for the company. Montasio Cattel
