Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, the son that Brigitte Bardot didn’t want: “Tumor that fed on me”

Unveiling the Private Life of Brigitte Bardot’s Son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier

Brigitte Bardot, the iconic French actress, was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but her only son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, has always remained out of the spotlight. Born in 1959 to Bardot and her then-husband, actor and producer Jacques Charrier, Nicolas-Jacques is now 65 years old and has lived a life away from the public eye.

For Bardot, motherhood was not a choice she had enthusiastically embraced. In a 2021 interview with Le Parisien, she confessed, “I had a son, but it cannot be said that this child, poor thing, arrived at the right time and gave me what I was missing.” In her autobiography, “They Call Me BB,” she further expressed her feelings, stating, “I would have preferred to give birth to a puppy,” and compared her pregnancy to “a tumor, which had fed on me, which I had carried in my swollen flesh, just waiting for the blessed moment in which I finally would have gotten rid of it.”

BB’s Complex Relationship with Motherhood and Her Son

After separating from Charrier in 1962, the couple engaged in a custody battle over their son. The court ultimately ruled in favor of the father, and Nicolas-Jacques was raised by his father, away from the glitz and glamour of his mother’s fame. In an interview with Paris Match in June 2024, Bardot revealed, “I promised Nicolas that I would never talk about him in my interviews,” demonstrating her respect for her son’s privacy.

Nicolas-Jacques grew up in anonymity, under the care of his father, and later married Norwegian model Anne-Line Bjerkan in 1984. The couple settled in Norway, where Nicolas-Jacques still resides today, and had two daughters, Anna and Théa, making Bardot a grandmother and eventually a great-grandmother. Although Bardot’s relationship with her son was complex, they maintained contact over the years, with Nicolas-Jacques visiting his mother annually at her home, La Madrague.

A Fragile yet Enduring Bond

Despite the challenges in their relationship, Bardot and her son have developed a bond over time. In a 2018 interview, Bardot shared, “We talk regularly. Living in Norway, he comes to visit me once a year in La Madrague, alone or with his family, his wife, my nieces.” However, their connection remains fragile, and Bardot has respected her son’s desire for privacy, refraining from discussing him in public interviews.
