Exploring the Liberty Style

The “Liberty” exhibition at Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia, curated by Manuel Carrera, Davide Dotti, and Anna Villari, will run from January 24 to June 14. This retrospective brings together over 100 works, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and posters, to immerse the public in the new Liberty style that took hold in Italy during the first 15 years of the 20th century. The exhibition also describes the cultural and social climate of the time, alongside the artistic one, providing a comprehensive understanding of the era.

The Macchiaioli and Other Exhibitions

In Milan, the “I Macchiaioli” exhibition at Palazzo Reale, curated by Francesca Dini, Elisabetta Matteucci, and Fernando Mazzocca, will showcase over 90 works by great artists such as Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Fattori, Telemaco Signorini, and Raffaello Sernesi. The exhibition, which runs from February 3 to June 14, recounts the “national” experiment of the Macchiaioli, a group of cultured painters who recognized themselves in Mazzini’s ideas and the instances of Positivism coming from France. Other notable exhibitions include “Bernini and the Barberini” at the National Galleries of Ancient Art in Rome, “Zandomeneghi and Degas. Impressionism between Florence and Paris” at Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo, and “Giotto and Saint Francis. A revolution in fourteenth-century Umbria” at the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia.

Contemporary Art Exhibitions

For contemporary art enthusiasts, the “Rothko in Florence” exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, curated by Christopher Rothko and Elena Geuna, promises to be a highlight. The exhibition, which runs from March 14 to August 23, retraces Rothko’s entire career, from his figurative works to his famous abstract canvases.
