Technical Failure Leaves Tourists Stranded in San Martino di Castrozza Ski Resort
A sudden technical failure caused a two-seater chair lift to block in the Ski Area San Martino di Castrozza in Trentino, leaving over 160 tourists stranded at an altitude between 1,600 and 1,900 meters. The incident occurred shortly after 12 pm along the plant that connects Ces to Malga Valcigolera. Fortunately, the rescue services were quickly activated, and the emergency management procedures were put in place to ensure the safe evacuation of the stranded tourists.
A chairlift in San Martino di Castrozza, Trentino, was the scene of the incident, which highlighted the importance of efficient emergency response systems in place at ski resorts. The operators from the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of the Stations of San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero, and Caoria were mobilized on site, along with a helicopter that took off from Trento and the Fire Brigade of San Martino di Castrozza. During the operational phase, the facility staff managed to activate the chairlift’s emergency mode, allowing the safe disembarkation of passengers from the departure and arrival stations. This swift and coordinated response ensured that the tourists were rescued without any injuries.
The rescue efforts were carried out by a team of experienced professionals, including 25 local rescuers and 20 operators from the stations of Fiemme, Bed, and Tesino. This highlights the efficiency of the territorial emergency system in place, which enabled a rapid and successful evacuation of the stranded tourists.

The operations concluded in just over an hour without any injuries, thanks to the prompt and coordinated response of the rescue teams.
