Nigeria and Egypt Advance to Quarter-Finals of Africa Cup of Nations
The Africa Cup of Nations has reached its quarter-final stage, with Nigeria and Egypt securing their spots after impressive wins in the round of 16. The tournament, which showcases the best of African football, has seen intense competition among the participating teams.
Egypt’s Hard-Fought Victory Over Benin
In Agadir, Morocco, Egypt faced off against Benin in a thrilling match that went into extra time. The ‘Pharaohs’ took the lead with Marwan Attia’s goal in the 24th minute, but Benin equalized with Jodel Dossou’s strike in the 38th minute, sending the match into extra time. Egypt’s Ibrahim scored in the 7th minute of extra time, and Mohamed Salah sealed the win with a counterattack goal in the second half of extra time, securing a 3-1 victory for the ‘Pharaohs’. Egypt will now face the winner of the Ivory Coast-Burkina Faso match, scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, at 8 pm.
Nigeria’s Dominant Performance Against Mozambique
Nigeria, on the other hand, had an easier time against Mozambique, winning 4-0 in their round of 16 match played in Fes, Morocco. The ‘Super Eagles’ were led by their star attackers, with Ademola Lookman opening the scoring in the 20th minute and Victor Osimhen doubling the lead just five minutes later. Lookman continued to shine, providing assists for Osimhen and Akor Adams in the second half, as Nigeria cruised to a 4-0 win. The ‘Super Eagles’ will now face the winner of the Algeria-Democratic Republic of Congo match, scheduled for tomorrow at 5 pm.
