Vietnam’s Economic Performance in 2025: A Notable Growth
Vietnam’s economy demonstrated a remarkable growth in 2025, with its gross domestic product (GDP) increasing by 8.02% compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance. This significant growth rate is the second highest in the last fifteen years, surpassed only by the 8.12% growth recorded in 2022.
Quarterly Growth and Sectoral Performance
The most substantial boost to the economy came in the fourth quarter, with GDP growing by 8.46% on an annual basis, the highest level recorded for a Q4 in the period 2011-2025. This indicates a constant acceleration trend throughout the year. The services sector was the primary driver of this growth, expanding by 8.62% and accounting for more than half of the total added value, thanks to the thriving trade and tourism industries. The industry and construction sector also performed well, with a growth rate of 8.95%, while the agricultural sector grew by 3.78%, remaining stable despite the impact of numerous natural disasters.
Government Efforts and Spending
According to Nguyen Thi Huong, director of the General Statistics Office, the acceleration observed in the last three months of the year reflects the government’s coordinated efforts to counter global uncertainties and support domestic demand. On the spending front, final consumption increased by 7.15%, while gross capital formation marked a significant growth of 8.92%. These efforts have contributed to the country’s overall economic performance, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fostering growth and stability.
Foreign Trade and Global Context
Foreign trade has also been booming, with exports and imports of goods and services growing by 19.34% and 19.40% respectively, despite the pressures deriving from international trade contexts. This remarkable growth in foreign trade is a testament to Vietnam’s resilience and adaptability in the face of global economic challenges.
