Brigitte Bardot’s Funeral: A Tribute to the French Icon
On Wednesday, January 7, the town of Saint-Tropez will pay homage to one of its most beloved figures: Brigitte Bardot. The iconic French actress, who passed away on December 28 at the age of 91, will be farewelled with a private ceremony in the church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption. After the service, Bardot will be buried in the city’s marine cemetery, overlooking the bay of Sainte-Maxime and the Estérel mountains, a setting that reflects the beauty and strength of the diva who made this corner of the French Riviera famous.

A Public Tribute
To allow citizens and fans to participate in the final farewell, the Municipality has set up giant screens in the center of the town and on the port. The public tribute will be followed and coordinated by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, committed to the defense of animals, one of the great battles of the actress’s life. The foundation’s involvement is a testament to Bardot’s dedication to animal welfare and her lasting impact on the world.
Among the most awaited appearances is that of Marine Le Pen, leader of the Rassemblement National, who received Bardot’s support in the past and remembered her as “an exceptional woman, incredibly French: free, indomitable and uncompromising”. The president Emmanuel Macron has proposed a national homage, however, he will not be present at the ceremony.

In these hours, Saint-Tropez shows a different face from the worldly one that made it famous. Once the tourist season is over and the port premises are closed, the streets appear silent and composed. However, the hotels in the area were sold out: admirers and curious people arrived to be close to the city in this moment of farewell. Meanwhile, workers and florists work to soberly decorate the commemoration sites, while the authorities have imposed restrictions on traffic and parking.
