Tragedy in Crans-Montana: A Moment of Reflection in the Senate

Silence and emotion filled the Senate chamber as President Ignazio La Russa asked for a moment of reflection for the young victims of the Crans-Montana fire, which he described as “a tragedy that has shaken us all.” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani echoed this sentiment, stating that “the tragedy that struck these kids, those who left us and those who were injured, is also our tragedy, our suffering – the pain has transformed into a collective embrace.”

Tajani emphasized the need for clarity on the massacre, saying “we have asked and will continue to demand that all responsibility be ascertained and that full clarity is made on what happened. Also in light of the negligent behavior that is evident to everyone.” He also announced that Italy will ask to be a civil party in the trial, as “this is a wound that has been inflicted on the entire country.” The Senate unanimously approved a bipartisan resolution committing the government to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the victims.

The fire, which broke out on New Year’s Eve in the Le Constellation club, resulted in the deaths of six Italian boys and fourteen injuries. Tajani assured that “we will guarantee all possible care” to the injured and their families, saying “we will be at their side. We will not abandon them and we will not turn off the spotlight.”

Tajani’s Emotional Response to the Tragedy

Tajani remembered the fire, saying “I felt like a father, a grandfather, and I actually shed a few tears in silence because what I saw was a terrible scene.” He described the tragedy as “an open wound for the entire national community,” and shared that he had visited the site on January 2 to be close to the families and bring the government’s support. Tajani confessed that “few times throughout my life and in my long public activity I have perceived and shared such heartbreaking pain, such profound anguish.”

Crans-Montana: A Devastating Event

Tajani’s emotional response to the tragedy highlights the devastating impact of the event on the nation. The minister’s words demonstrate a deep sense of empathy and responsibility, as he acknowledges the pain and suffering of the families and commits to providing support.

Italy’s Response to the Tragedy

According to Tajani, “Italy’s response was immediate. We were able to guarantee timely treatment to the injured and psychological support to the families, demonstrating once again the efficiency of our emergency management system.” He also highlighted the delicate work carried out for the return to Italy of the bodies of the young victims, which was done quickly and efficiently through coordination between various government agencies.

Bipartisan Resolution: Supporting Families in Trials

A bipartisan resolution was approved in the Senate, committing the government to provide full and continuous legal assistance to the families of the deceased victims and the people injured in the fire. The resolution, signed by all Senate group leaders, demonstrates a united front in supporting those affected by the tragedy.
