International Women’s Day: A Tribute to Migrant and War Victim Women at the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto

The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA) is commemorating International Women’s Day on March 8 with a unique blend of musical matinees, themed visits, and guided tours. This year, the museum has decided to dedicate the celebration to migrant and war victim women, highlighting the strength and courage of the female universe represented in the museum’s artefacts and archaeological finds.

A Musical Tribute to Migration and Humanity

The event features the ‘Migrantes. A journey between hope and humanity’, a sound experience conceived and composed by guitarist Francesco Buzzurro with the Quartetto Goffriller string quartet. This musical piece is dedicated to the theme of contemporary migration, aiming to raise awareness about the struggles and hopes of migrant women. The archaeological proposal will focus on the female figure in Hellenistic Taranto, with thematic guided tours and an aperitif in the Cloister.

A Message of Solidarity and Support

According to Director Stella Falzone, “We have decided to celebrate the female universe, which the artefacts and archaeological finds of the MArTA represent to us in multiple forms and in which women are exalted for their beauty, strength and courage, with a thought and a strong feeling of closeness to the women victims of wars, violence and migration.” This initiative is part of the museum’s concert season, promoted by the museum and the orchestra of Magna Grecia.

A Special Offer for Women on International Women’s Day

On March 8, the museum is offering free entry to all women, as part of the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, excluding musical offerings. This is a unique opportunity for women to explore the museum’s collections and learn about the history and culture of Taranto.
