Jannik Sinner Dominates Alexander Zverev to Reach First Final at Indian Wells

Powerful, fast, and irresistible, Jannik Sinner returned to his top form, reminiscent of his time as the world number one, to win his first career final at Indian Wells. The German Alexander Zverev, ranked number 4 in the world, paid the price, having been beaten in the last five previous matches. After a balanced start, Sinner accelerated with breaks, perfect returns, and violent forehands, closing the score with an unequivocal 6-2, 6-4 in just 83 minutes.

Sinner will now face Daniil Medvedev in the final, who surprisingly defeated the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, in the other semi-final with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7/3). The match between Sinner and Zverev began with the German presenting his best shot, the serve, which he won at zero. Sinner also got off to a good start, holding serve at 15, despite showing some discomfort in his lower back during the warm-up.

A Dominant Performance by Sinner

The first set was marked by a balanced start, with both players holding their serves. However, Sinner soon took control, breaking Zverev’s serve and taking the lead to 3-2. With a cross-court backhand buried in the net, Zverev lost the first point on serve, and Sinner capitalized on the opportunity, breaking his serve again and flying to 5-2. The Italian player easily got three set-points in a row and closed the set 6-2.

The second set began with Sinner still on the ball, and Zverev struggling to hold serve. The Italian player didn’t miss a beat when it was his turn to serve, and he broke Zverev’s serve again, taking a 4-3 lead. Sinner held serve, signing the 5-3 in his favor, and Zverev was unable to recover. The South Tyrolean player served to win his first final in the Californian tournament and closed the set 6-4.

A Chance to Make History

The final against Medvedev promises to be a spectacle. Sinner has the chance to win the title at Indian Wells and become the third player, after Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, to win all six ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on hard court. Sinner has previously won his first Masters 1000 in Canada in 2023, twice at the Australian Open (2024 and 2025), and twice at the Nitto ATP Finals (2024 and 2025), and also triumphed in Miami and Cincinnati in 2024.

Sinner expressed his happiness after reaching the final, saying, “A great result, the first time here in the final is important for me, I am extremely happy to have done better in this tournament this week. It was the tournament I was most nostalgic for last year.” He added, “The performance was excellent – the next match will be tough. It was a match that I wanted to play like this and I succeeded.”
