Combating Violence Against Women: A New Anti-Violence Center Opens at Campus Bio-Medico University Polyclinic

The fight against violence towards women has taken a significant step forward with the inauguration of a new Anti-Violence Center at the Campus Bio-Medico University Polyclinic Foundation. This center, created in collaboration with the Assolei Aps association, aims to provide listening, orientation, and psychological and legal support to women who suffer violence and mistreatment, as well as their minor children, ensuring confidentiality and anonymity.

Services and Accessibility

The center will operate from Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, with 24-hour telephone availability on 345.5839697. Women can access the services by visiting the center directly at via Álvaro del Portillo 200 or by contacting the operators via telephone, WhatsApp, or email (info@assolei.it). Following the initial interview, a risk assessment will be conducted, and if necessary, a protection plan will be activated.

The Prevalence of Violence Against Women in Italy

According to the latest findings from Istat, in 2025, almost 6.4 million Italian women aged 16 to 75 (31.9% of the population) have suffered at least one form of physical or sexual violence during their lives. Over 2.4 million reported incidents of physical violence or threats from relatives, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, or strangers, while 20.8% also suffered sexual violence. Furthermore, in 2024, 19,518 emergency room visits were recorded with indications of violence, marking a 15.2% increase compared to the previous year. These numbers underscore the urgent need for dedicated measures within the healthcare sector to address and combat situations of mistreatment.

A Safe Haven for Women

The new center at the Campus Bio-Medico Polyclinic serves as a vital point of reference not only for the Trigoria district but also for the southern quadrant of the city. It offers a safe and welcoming space where women can share their stories and receive concrete help. The establishment of this center reflects the commitment of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico to address the emergency of violence against women, providing a place where every woman can feel welcomed and listened to.

Collaboration and Commitment

“Violence against women is an emergency that concerns everyone and requires commitment and responsibility,” stated Carlo Tosti, President of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico. Paolo Sormani, CEO and General Manager of the foundation, emphasized the importance of bridging the gap for women who often arrive at the hospital without being able to discuss their experiences, aiming to provide an easily accessible listening and protection point in synergy with all the operating units of the Polyclinic. Dalila Novelli, President of the Assolei Association, highlighted the association’s long-standing commitment against violence and the significance of the territorial diffusion of anti-violence centers, especially within the healthcare sector, in preventing lethal episodes.
