Critics Choice Awards 2025: ‘Battle After Battle’ Takes Top Honors

The 31st edition of the Critics Choice Awards has officially kicked off the awards season, with ‘Battle After Battle’ directed by Paul Thomas Anderson emerging as the best film of 2025. The thriller, produced by Warner Bros, won the main prize along with awards for directing and non-original screenplay. Anderson, known for his meticulous attention to detail, expressed his gratitude to his team, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Chase Infiniti, and Teyana Taylor, during his acceptance speech.

A Night of Recognition for Outstanding Performances

Timothée Chalamet took home the award for Best Leading Actor for his portrayal of an ambitious ping-pong player in ‘Marty Supreme’ directed by Josh Safdie. Chalamet, who has been making waves in the film industry with his versatile performances, seemed emotional during his acceptance speech, dedicating his win to his girlfriend Kylie Jenner. The Critics Choice Awards also recognized Jessie Buckley’s outstanding performance in Chloé Zhao’s ‘Hamnet’, paving the way for her potential Oscar win.

Amy Madigan won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the horror film ‘Weapons’, while Jacob Elordi surprised audiences with his win in the same category for ‘Frankenstein’. The adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel, directed by Guillermo del Toro, took home four awards, including those for costumes, make-up, and set design. ‘Sinners’, a costume drama directed by Ryan Coogler, received four awards, including those for the soundtrack, original screenplay, and best young actor.

TV Series Awards and Other Notable Wins

The Critics Choice Awards also recognized outstanding TV series, with ‘The Pitt’ winning Best Drama Series and ‘The Studio’ taking home the award for Best Comedy Series. Jean Smart continued her winning streak, receiving another trophy for her portrayal of a mature stand-up comedian in ‘Hacks’. Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ triumphed as Best Miniseries, with actors Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty receiving awards for their performances.

The awards ceremony, broadcast live on E!, was held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and marked the beginning of the awards season.
