Trieste Mayor Sparks Outrage with Sexist Remark and Photomontage Insulting Elly Schlein
The mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, has come under fire for his recent behavior, which has been deemed sexist and insulting. On the day of the Epiphany, Dipiazza posted a photomontage on social media that targeted the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein. The image was widely criticized, with many calling it a sexist and vulgar attack on a public figure.
Dipiazza’s actions have been met with immediate backlash, particularly given his history of sexist remarks. Just a few weeks ago, he was criticized for telling a city councilor, “I have never let myself be bossed around by a woman.” The comment was widely condemned, and Dipiazza’s latest actions have only added to the outrage.
Reactions from Politicians and Public Figures
The presidents of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary groups in the Senate and Chamber, Francesco Boccia and Chiara Braga, as well as the head of the Dem delegation in Brussels, Nicola Zingaretti, have all spoken out against Dipiazza’s actions. They have called the gesture “truly serious” and accused Dipiazza of showing “all the narrow-mindedness, vulgarity and misery of a right-wing culture in which the denigration of the political opponent is habitual.” They have also demanded that Dipiazza apologize to the PD community and to Elly Schlein.
Other politicians, such as deputy Elisabetta Piccolotti, have also weighed in on the issue. Piccolotti expressed her disappointment and concern, stating that she tries to teach her son the importance of respect for others and that bullying can cause harm. She also emphasized that citizens can choose a more dignified person to represent them in the future.
Condemnation from the Democratic Party and Other Organizations
The secretary of the Trieste Democratic Party, Caterina Conti, has strongly condemned Dipiazza’s actions, calling them “disrespect” and “sexist, vulgar and unworthy” of someone who holds a public office. The Democratic Party group in the Lazio Regional Council has also released a statement, emphasizing that the issue is not about political affiliation but about respect for institutions and people.
Even the director of TgLa7, Enrico Mentana, has shared his thoughts on the matter, questioning how the mayor of a city like Trieste can afford to post such an insulting image. The widespread condemnation of Dipiazza’s actions highlights the need for respect and dignity in public discourse.
