Former Brazilian Footballer Adriano’s Mother Falls Victim to AI-Driven Scam
The former Brazilian footballer Adriano, affectionately known as the ‘Emperor’ in Rio de Janeiro, has raised an alarm on social media after his mother was scammed out of over 15 thousand reais (approximately 2,400 euros) by an impostor using artificial intelligence. The scammer, posing as Adriano, managed to convince his mother to deposit the funds into a fake account.
Adriano’s Warning to the Public
In a video published online and shared by major Brazilian media outlets, Adriano recounted the incident: “Hello everyone, I’m here to warn you of a very serious thing. My mother has just deposited more than 15 thousand reais into an account that pretended to be me.” He clarified that he had not changed his telephone number and urged everyone to be cautious of suspicious requests: “Don’t do it, my number is always the same.” Adriano directly addressed the scammer, issuing a stern warning: “You better return the money, because I will come looking for you. You don’t mess with your mother, grandmother, and family.” He set an ultimatum, giving the scammer 24 hours to return the money.
Importance of Vigilance Against Scams
Adriano’s experience serves as a reminder to be extremely cautious when receiving requests, especially those involving financial transactions. The use of artificial intelligence in scams has become increasingly sophisticated, making it essential for individuals to verify the authenticity of requests before taking action. As Adriano emphasized, “Be careful, there are many scammers around, but when you touch the family, it’s different.” His warning highlights the need for vigilance and the importance of protecting loved ones from such scams.
