Cuzziol: «Do you ferment a wine and then remove the alcohol? An unwise choice and our customers know it”

Must Read

Introduction to Cuzziol GrandiVini

With a 2025 turnover of €25,280,000 and 7,270 customers in its portfolio, spread throughout Italy, the wines & spirits distributor Cuzziol GrandiVini begins 2026 by presenting its collection in Milan, at the Excelsior Hotel Gallia. The wine market scenario is complex, with main operators expressing concerns, hopes, and wishes, but no one indulging in easy optimism. Despite this, Cuzziol GrandiVini’s solidity is evident in its 2025 turnover, which is in line with 2024, and a +8.9% EBITDA, an economic index that photographs the company’s profit before paying interest, taxes, and amortization.

The Value of Relationship Beyond Walk-Around Tasting

The Milanese event follows closely on the heels of the Roman one, a two-day event aimed at agents, customers, and the sector press, designed not only as an opportunity for tasting but as a moment of relationship and discussion. An approach that goes beyond walk-around tasting, consistent with a vision based on collaboration, sharing, and building value over time. We talk about it directly with Luca Cuzziol, President of the board of directors to draw directly from the source and not be satisfied with official figures and declarations.

Horeca, High Range, and No Alcohol: A Choice Against Standardization

How do you spend this preparation in a new phase like the current one, in which the demand for wine and spirits is decreasing, and the share of no-alcohol and low-alcohol products is increasing?

«If we talk about abroad, obviously, there is an entire market system that needs to be reviewed and which requires attention and flexibility on the part of the entire supply chain. But Cuzziol GrandiVini sells in Italy, and our targets right now are not suffering because the clientele is selected: those who buy our wines are on average informed, less a victim of anti-alcoholic trends, and are able to reason about how logical it is to ferment a wine, to obtain an alcohol content, and then work (investing in expensive machinery) to remove it.

The Wine Market Between Adjustment and Selection of Consumption

President, can we say that 2025 was not an unfortunate year for wine, or are we joining in the complaints?

«2025 is in fact the continuation of 2024. First, there was the post-Covid rebound, a hint of enthusiasm among consumers and enthusiasts, after which the recent adjustment phase. The current one seems to me to be a period of reflection, at least until the end of 2026.

«It’s always the story of the glass being half empty or half full, there’s no getting out of there: but I don’t want to trivialize, in reality, we have to read carefully through the contents of the glass, to continue with the metaphor. The data that comforts us is that 70% of wine is sold to large-scale distribution; and if we talk about the average price at the final distributor, we are around 3 euros. Cuzziol GrandiVini, however, only sells to Horeca, the average is 13 euros per bottle for our high-end products, and therefore the perspective is different.

Training and Competence as a Strategic Lever in Distribution

So a distribution company like yours has staff training as its first concern?

«Without that, you can’t be authentic and convincing with customers. In this sector, the problem is well known: if you are a pharmacist or a doctor, you have to study hard to qualify, if you go to sell wines & spirits anything goes. There are those who limit themselves to peddling slogans, using terms whose meaning they don’t really know: a perfect example is that of so-called “natural” wine, a generic label that remains useless if you don’t delve deeper.
