Film and Actor Favorites
Among the favorites for the awards, Hamnet by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao appears to be a strong contender for best drama film. However, the horror film Sinners has seen a rise in odds in recent weeks. In the comedy category, One Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson is a favorite, with its cast recently nominated for the Actor Awards. The race for best actor is expected to be competitive, with Ethan Hawke potentially winning for his portrayal of Lorenz Hart in Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon. Other notable contenders include Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme and Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another.
Challenge Between Actresses
In the actress categories, Ariana Grande is a potential winner for best supporting actress for her role as Glinda in the musical Wicked. For the leading roles, Jessie Buckley is a favorite for her portrayal of Anne in Hamnet in the dramatic category, while Chase Infiniti and Cynthia Erivo are contenders in the comedy or musical category. However, Erivo will not be attending the ceremony due to her commitments on Broadway with The Color Purple.
