Illycaffè’s Record-Breaking Year: A Strategic Move Towards International Growth
Illycaffè is preparing to close 2025 with record revenues, matured in Italy and on international markets, to almost 690 million euros, growing by 10% on the previous year. Above all, the United States supported the result: the American market today is worth 20% of the total turnover and it grew by 19% at constant exchange rates. It is from these numbers that the next strategic move of the Trieste group takes shape: a part of the production destined for the USA will in fact be made directly overseas.
Illycaffè’s CEO, Cristina Scocchia, announced the company’s plans to produce between 15 and 20% of the coffee they sell on the American market in the United States, starting from the first months of 2026. This move aims to make the logistics chain more flexible and shorten the distance from the final consumer, also in terms of product development. Scocchia stated, «We have completed a long and very detailed process to identify an industrial partner in the United States».
Challenges and Opportunities in the Coffee Market
The context, however, was not easy. The cost of green coffee has risen by 50% compared to 2024, stabilizing in recent weeks at around 370-380 US cents per pound. This dynamic has put pressure on the entire supply chain, thanks to financial speculation that has not stopped even after the stop on duties on imports from Brazil decided by the Trump administration. Despite this, Illycaffè chose to limit the increases to the final consumer, which affected margins, but top-line growth proved to be the right decision.
Looking ahead, Illycaffè remains cautious but confident. Analysts predict a drop in green coffee prices in the second half of 2026, the effects of which will however only be seen in 2027. Scocchia concluded, «In the meantime, we continue to focus on healthy organic growth». The numbers for 2025, and the choice to also produce in the USA, indicate that the direction has already been traced.
