Introduction to Miart 2026: A Celebration of Jazz and Art
The 30th edition of Miart, the international modern and contemporary art fair, is set to take place from April 17 to 19, 2026, at the new headquarters in the South Wing of Allianz MiCo, overlooking City Life. This year’s event, titled “New Directions,” pays tribute to the 1963 album by American musician John Coltrane, on the centenary of his birth. The theme of jazz music, with its emphasis on improvisation, dialogue, and interaction, will be woven throughout the fair, featuring 160 galleries from 24 countries.
Art and Culture at the Forefront
According to Roberto Foresti, deputy general director of Fiera Milano, “Art is one of the paths chosen by Fiera Milano to continue its strategy.” The art market, valued at 112 billion euros, is growing by 2% compared to the previous year and employs 1.5 million people. By putting culture at the center, Miart aims to contribute to this thriving industry. The exhibition projects will trace a path through more than a century of art history, from the classics of the early and late twentieth century to more contemporary explorations.
Emergent Section and Special Projects
The Emergent section will feature 29 galleries from around the world, some participating for the first time. Additionally, Miart 2026 will propose an unprecedented special project dedicated to the moving image, in collaboration with the St. Moritz Art Film Festival. The Sz Sugar miart commission, created in collaboration with Sz Sugar, a publishing house dedicated to contemporary classical music, will also return. This edition’s project focuses on two fundamental works from 1960: Audace colpo dei soliti ignoti by Piero Umiliani and Invention on a voice for magnetic tape by Bruno Maderna. Participating galleries will be invited to propose a work on these two pieces, reworking and transforming them into new artistic productions.
Partnerships and Events
The collaboration with the Intesa Sanpaolo Group is renewed as the main partner, and for the fourth year with Ice – Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies. The Milan Art Week, a calendar of openings, installations, exhibitions, events, and meetings, will take place from April 13 to 19, involving the entire city. With its rich program and diverse range of exhibitions, Miart 2026 promises to be an exciting event for art enthusiasts and professionals alike.
