Piedmont Regional Council Approves 2025-2030 Socio-Health Plan

The Piedmont Regional Council has given the green light to the 2025-2030 socio-health plan, with 30 votes in favor and 16 against. According to the President of the Region, Alberto Cirio, this move restores the region’s role as a planning body, as assigned by the Constitution. “Our role is not to manage everyday life, but to plan it,” Cirio emphasized in the chamber. This development comes after a 30-year absence of a programming instrument, marking a significant milestone for the region.

A New Era for Socio-Health Integration

The Regional Council’s decision has been welcomed by various stakeholders, including the regional health councilor, Federico Riboldi. Riboldi highlighted the plan’s objective of bringing back into the public health system those who are currently excluded and reducing waiting lists. Meanwhile, the councilor for social policies, Maurizio Marrone, praised the plan for outlining a concrete application of socio-health integration, including the institution of the figure of the socio-health director and a model agreement between health districts and social territorial areas.

Criticism from the Opposition

However, not everyone is convinced of the plan’s effectiveness. Daniele Valle, vice-president of the Health Commission, criticized the plan as “still not decisive” and lacking in specifics regarding times and ways of implementation. Despite this, the opposition contributed to the document with several amendments, some of which were approved. This collaborative effort underscores the complexities and challenges involved in creating a comprehensive socio-health plan.

A Step Forward for Piedmont’s Healthcare System

Despite the criticisms, the approval of the 2025-2030 socio-health plan marks a significant step forward for Piedmont’s healthcare system. The plan’s focus on socio-health integration, reduction of waiting lists, and improved service homogeneity reflects the region’s commitment to providing quality healthcare to its citizens. As the region moves forward with the implementation of this plan, it will be essential to monitor its progress and address any challenges that arise.
