Pitti Uomo: A Hub for Men’s Fashion and International Collaboration
The 109th edition of Pitti Uomo, a premier men’s fashion event, is set to take place from January 13 to 16 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy. This edition promises to be a significant platform for men’s fashion companies to showcase their autumn/winter 2026/27 collections, with 750 brands participating, 47% of which are foreign. The event is crucial for the sector, which has faced challenges due to geopolitical tensions, market instability, and protectionist measures, particularly from the United States, the third-largest outlet market for Italian men’s fashion.
Challenges and Opportunities in the Men’s Fashion Sector
According to data from Confindustria moda, the Italian men’s fashion sector experienced a 2.1% drop in turnover in 2025, amounting to 11.2 billion euros, with exports also returning to negative growth (-2%). This underscores the importance of events like Pitti Uomo, which aims to support the sector’s relaunch. The inauguration ceremony, attended by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and the leaders of the fair, will also see the awarding of the Pitti Immagine prize to Unicredit.
Motion: The Guiding Theme of Pitti Uomo
The theme of this edition, “Motion,” symbolizes the need for dynamism and movement in the industry. The ‘Ancient/New Site’ installation by French architect Marc Leschelier, covering 1,700 square meters of the central square, will welcome visitors. The installation consists of 18 monoliths, each 5 meters high, 3 meters wide, and 9 meters deep, covered in concrete canvas. This artistic expression reflects the blend of tradition and innovation that Pitti Uomo embodies.
International Guests and New Features
The event boasts an impressive lineup of international guests, including Hed Mayner, the Israeli-born, Paris-based stylist who will showcase his conceptual and architectural approach to fashion at the Royal Palace of Santa Maria Novella. Mayner’s designs, characterized by wide trousers, soft shirts, and sculptural jackets, draw references from the sacred, tradition, tailoring, and sportswear. Additionally, the Japanese new wave will be represented through the Sebiro Sanpo collective’s gentleman’s parade and guest designer Soshi Otsuki, winner of the LVMH Prize for young fashion designers in 2025.
Beauty and Artistic Perfumery
A new area dedicated to artistic perfumery has been introduced, reflecting the growing interest in this aspect of men’s grooming. This addition underscores Pitti Uomo’s commitment to covering all facets of men’s lifestyle and fashion, providing a comprehensive platform for brands and attendees alike.
