Kanye West Concert in Reggio Emilia Sparks Protest from Anpi
The Anpi of Reggio Emilia has once again expressed its opposition to a performance by Kanye West in the city, citing the rapper’s history of making anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi statements. This is not the first time the organization has spoken out against West, having previously protested his presence at Campovolo in October 2023 and at the Unipol Arena in Bologna in February 2024.
The Reggio Emilia section of the Partisans’ Association has released a statement expressing its concern and opposition to the decision to allow West to perform at the Rcf Arena in Campovolo in summer 2026. The statement cites West’s “declarations and messages disseminated several times by him, characterized by anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi contents which are incompatible with the founding values of our Constitution”. The organization is worried that West’s messages will spread hatred and racial discrimination, particularly among young people.
Violent and Discriminatory Messages from West
Kanye West has been criticized internationally for his statements and stances, which have been deemed discriminatory and violent. The Anpi insists that West’s ideas are not compatible with the values of Reggio Emilia, a city with a rich history of fighting for liberation and democratic principles. The organization believes that freedom of expression should not be used as an excuse to spread hatred and racial discrimination, and that artists have a moral and civil responsibility to consider the impact of their messages on their audience.
The Anpi’s president, Ermete Fiaccadori, had previously spoken out against West’s concert, emphasizing the importance of not giving a platform to artists who spread negative and misleading messages. The organization is committed to countering West’s ideas and promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity. By speaking out against West’s concert, the Anpi hopes to raise awareness about the importance of promoting democratic values and combating hatred and discrimination.
