Tourists Enjoyed Pizza and Spritz Before Doing a Runner in Italian Seaside Town
A shocking incident occurred in the Italian seaside town of Civitanova Marche, where two French tourists left a restaurant without paying their bill. The women had enjoyed a pizza each and several glasses of spritz at the Ai Due Re pizzeria, accumulating a bill of €44. Instead of settling their debt, they decided to do a runner, walking out the front door of the restaurant.
The pizzeria’s owner, Michela Malatini, recounted the incident to newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, stating that the women had arrived without a reservation and ordered two pizzas and several spritzes. When it was time to pay, they got up and walked out the front door, slowly walking away. Malatini noted that this was not the first time she had encountered such incidents, but this time she decided to take action.
Restaurateur Tracks Down Tourists
Through word of mouth with other restaurateurs in the town, Malatini discovered where the two customers were staying. The next morning, with permission from the owner of their guest accommodation, she knocked on the door of the French tourists, showing them the video that incriminated them. The women were caught off guard, and after being presented with the security camera footage, they paid their bill without saying a word.
Malatini emphasized that the incident was not just about the amount of money, but about the principle. “We work hard, and seeing customers trying to leave without paying is a slap in the face for our work,” she explained. This incident highlights the importance of honesty and respect for businesses, particularly in the service industry.
Importance of Honesty and Respect
The incident in Civitanova Marche serves as a reminder of the need for customers to respect businesses and their employees. As Malatini pointed out, the act of leaving without paying is a personal affront to the hard work and dedication of those in the service industry. It is essential for customers to prioritize honesty and integrity, especially when interacting with local businesses.
