Italian Government Defends Soldiers Against Trump’s Criticism
The Italian government has come to the defense of its soldiers after US President Donald Trump made comments downplaying the role of NATO allies in the conflict in Afghanistan. After facing criticism for his comments, Trump appeared to backtrack, praising the role of British soldiers in Afghanistan. In a post on his social media platform, Trump wrote that the “great and brave soldiers of the United Kingdom will always stand by the United States of America!” and acknowledged the sacrifices made by British troops in the conflict. However, this reversal did not extend to other NATO partners, including Italy.
