State Museums to Remain Open During the Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches, the Ministry of Culture has announced that state museums and cultural institutions will remain open on most days, with a few exceptions. According to the announcement, state museums, monumental complexes, and state archaeological parks will be open on December 24 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1 and 6, 2026, throughout the national territory.
Exception on Christmas Day
However, it’s worth noting that these institutions will be closed on December 25, 2025, in observance of Christmas Day. This is a standard practice for many cultural institutions and museums, allowing staff to spend the holiday with their families and friends.
Free Entry on January 4, 2026
In addition to the extended holiday hours, the Ministry of Culture has also announced that January 4, 2026, will be a #domenicalmuseo day. This initiative, launched by the Ministry, offers free entry to museums, galleries, archaeological areas, and parks, castles, and monumental complexes, abbeys, villas, and historic state gardens on the first Sunday of every month. Visitors can take advantage of this offer during regular opening hours, with reservations required where applicable.
Plan Your Visit
To make the most of the holiday season and take advantage of the free entry on January 4, 2026, visitors are encouraged to plan their visits in advance. With many cultural institutions and museums open during this period, there’s never been a better time to explore and discover the rich cultural heritage of the country.
