Naples Celebrates 2500 Years with a Traditional Christmas Concert
A great pride but also a way to celebrate 2500 years of Naples. The superintendent of the San Carlo Theater, Fulvio Macciardi, spoke to Rainews24 about the traditional Christmas Concert with the Orchestra and Choir of the San Carlo Theater in Naples, which will take place in the Senate Chamber in the presence of the President of the Republic and the highest officials of the State. This event is a source of pride for the world of music, as Macciardi stated, “It is a source of pride to represent the world of music in front of President Mattarella and the highest officials of the State.”
A Symbolic Day for Naples
Macciardi emphasized the significance of the concert, saying, “we bring the Neapolitan tradition which in the eighteenth century gave birth to what has now become the largest theater in the world… Naples was the world capital of music. All the great musicians went to Naples to compose and leave works of art, so tomorrow’s concert on a symbolic day, because it is the day considered the birthday of Naples is particularly prestigious and I believe it is a sign of affection towards the head of state and for all those who live the Neapolitan tradition in a complete and participatory way”. The concert will feature a range of musical pieces, including Rossini and Mameli’s anthem, as well as a traditional Neapolitan song almost 300 years old, sung by the great soprano Maria Agresta.
A Celebration of Neapolitan Heritage
The traditional Christmas Concert is not only a celebration of music but also a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Naples. As Macciardi noted, the city has a long history of being a hub for musical composition and performance, with many great musicians having visited and worked in Naples. The concert is a way to honor this legacy and to share it with the President of the Republic and other high-ranking officials. For more information on this event, readers can visit Here
