BNL BNP Paribas and Telethon Foundation: A 34-Year Partnership for Scientific Research

The solidarity counter has reached an impressive 9 million euros, marking a significant increase from last year’s collection. This remarkable achievement is the result of the 2025 fundraising efforts of BNL BNP Paribas for the Telethon Foundation, which aims to support scientific research for the treatment of rare genetic diseases. The announcement was made live on Rai 1 by Claudia Cattani, President of BNL BNP Paribas and Findomestic Banca, and Luca di Montezemolo, President of the Telethon Foundation.

A Long-Standing Partnership

Over the past 34 years, the partnership between BNL BNP Paribas and the Telethon Foundation has yielded outstanding results, with a total collection of over 350 million euros. This achievement is a testament to the commitment of the bank’s customers, colleagues, and the broader community. As President Cattani emphasized, “We believe in scientific research that generates shared knowledge and allows the construction of a future in which care becomes life.” The regions of Lazio, Lombardy, Campania, Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto have been particularly active in their donations, but the contribution has been widespread and significant across all of Italy.

Supporting Groundbreaking Research

The partnership between BNL BNP Paribas and the Telethon Foundation has enabled the financing of 3,118 projects, involving 1,916 researchers. This collaboration has led to numerous breakthroughs, including the development of the first gene therapy in the world using stem cells for the treatment of Ada-Scid. In 2025, the Telethon Foundation achieved another milestone with the gene therapy for Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS), which obtained the positive opinion of the EMA and the approval of the FDA for marketing in the United States. The San Raffaele Telethon Institute in Milan played a crucial role in the development of this groundbreaking treatment.

Corporate Volunteering and Solidarity Events

Telethon also represents the most significant corporate volunteering project for BNL BNP Paribas, with approximately 50,000 hours dedicated per year. The bank’s agencies have been actively involved in solidarity events, which have taken place throughout the country, attracting a large turnout of people. The evening show organized by the bank at the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari, now in its 11th year, has raised around 980,000 euros, with over 11,500 spectators. The 27th edition of the Staffetta di Udine, supported by BNL BNP Paribas, has totaled over 3.5 million euros to date.

Contributing to the Telethon

It is possible to contribute to the Telethon throughout the year. The solidarity and commitment of individuals, families, and businesses have been instrumental in driving the success of this initiative. As the partnership between BNL BNP Paribas and the Telethon Foundation continues to grow, it is essential to recognize the significance of their joint efforts in advancing scientific research and improving the lives of those affected by rare genetic diseases.
