Introduction to Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2026 Haute Couture Collection
Chanel’s latest haute couture collection for Spring/Summer 2026, designed by Matthieu Blazy, debuted during Paris Haute Couture Week. The collection showcased a fairytale world of very light fabrics, transparencies, feathers, and a touch of the twenties. The Grand Palais, set up with a fairytale forest backdrop, complete with enormous mushrooms in shades of pink and weeping willows with pastel pink leaves, welcomed a parade of stars, including Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, and Dua Lipa.
Design Elements and Inspiration
The Franco-Belgian designer, who became the new artistic director of Chanel in 2025, focused on the lightness of materials, impalpable fabrics, transparencies, and pastel colors, while also drawing inspiration from the 1920s for the silhouettes of the clothes. Many looks were decorated with feathered edges, fringes, and sequins, accompanied by complex embroidery and precious applications. These design elements aimed to highlight Chanel’s exceptional artisanal savoir faire, as hinted at by the designer a few days before the show with images posted on the maison’s social networks.
Enchanted Forest Theme and Nature Inspiration
The theme of the enchanted forest and nature was strong on the catwalk, with embroidery featuring edges of dresses rich in colored feathers, like peacock tails, and duster coats decorated with ruffles reminiscent of climbing plants. Sheath dresses were embroidered with organza and tulle bows, resembling the plumage of a bird. The iconic Chanel suit also made an appearance, decorated with refined small tone-on-tone feathers on the edges of the sleeves and collar.
Style Codes and Color Palette
Blazy’s first high fashion collection celebrated the soul of the maison, incorporating style codes of the fashion house founded by Coco Chanel, such as tweed, bouclé, and camellia flowers, which appeared in the details of the entire collection. The color palette was strategically chosen, starting from delicate pastel shades of pink, blue, and nude, interrupted by flashes of bright tones like red and orange. A contrast was also desired in the combination of materials, such as the mix of chiffon and heavy cottons.
Lightness and Structured Materials
The idea of lightness and structured materials was clear in the most iconic looks, like the classic tweed blazer combined with a transparent chiffon skirt. The final look, a suit with a shirt and oversized skirt in delicate white sequins, also embodied this idea. The new stylistic quirk, shoes with mushroom-shaped heels, is already gaining attention and promises to be a fan favorite.
